October 2018

Bar from a couple of storms at the end of Sept beginning of October the weather has been great.  We are getting the house ready now for the thatch.  It's all go trying to finish the outside work before the winter kicks in. The plumber has been in and is doing loads of first fixing for the plumbing in the house. The cavities in the house got pumped so it is nice and warm inside and that is without the glass in the windows. A picture of the back of the house from up the road

Slating complete

Inside timberframe walls started, this is the wall and sliding door to the sitting room.

The roof of the old house is being stripped getting ready for thatching

They also had to clean out 30 years of rooks nests from the chimney going down to Kate's room.

A thatch fireproof membrane had to be laid across the roof as an fireproof underlay to the thatch.  We had to do this to get insurance and it does stop fire going into the house if the worst sceanario happened.  Marika will thatch to the battons

Brian is building up the old chimney a couple of foot to accommodate the thatch. They have to clad the inside of both chimney with wire meshing as a fire proof barrier with the thatch to get insurance

The water board arrived and connected us to the water mains.

Our new water mains

Gerry O'Halloran, a great roofer and our neighbour is finishing off the roof on the garage.

Finishing off the fireproof membrane and securing to the building to seal it

A big tidy up and re-organizing the scaffolding in readiness for our Thatcher coming 1st Nov.

More windows spraying going in in readiness for the glass arriving

Brian is putting in skylights in the back of the old cottage so the room will be bright.
